Carly Rae Jepsen Still No. 1, Nicki Minaj Makes History On Hot 100!

‘Call Me Maybe’ notches a fifth week at No. 1, while ‘Starships’ has spent its first 21 weeks in the top 10, a new record!

Carly Rae Jepsen tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week with “Call Me Maybe,” while Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” has logged its first 21 weeks in the top 10, establishing a new record.

“Maybe” continues its Hot 100 command as it leads the Digital Songschart for an eighth week (244,000 downloads sold, down 3%, according to Nielsen SoundScan) and returns (2-1) for a fourth week atop On-Demand Songs (987,000 on-demand streams, up 10%, according to Nielsen BDS). On Radio Songs, “Maybe” rebounds to its No. 2 peak (3-2) with a 1% increase to 132 million all-format audience impressions, according to BDS.

The song, now covered by even Cookie Monster, as “Share It Maybe” (“it” being a cookie, of course), is within one week of tying Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” (nine weeks in 2005, the chart’s first year contributing to the Hot 100) for the longest reign on Digital Songs by a lead solo female. Flo Rida’s “Low,” featuring T-Pain, holds the mark among all titles, with 13 weeks atop Digital Songs in 2007-08.

On the far end of the Hot 100′s top 10, Minaj’s “Starships” descends 8-9 in its 21st week. While that move might seem unremarkable on the surface, it grants the rapper/singer a piece of Hot 100 history. Since debuting at No. 9 the week of March 3, “Starships” has yet to depart the top 10 for 21 weeks running, marking the most consecutive frames that a top 10-debuting title has remained in the region from its arrival. “Starships” passes the Black Eyed Peas’ 2009 smash “I Gotta Feeling,” which spent its first 20 weeks in the top 10, including 14 at No. 1.

Contributing to its four-months-long chart fortunes, “Starships” has won support at multiple radio formats, reaching No. 2 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, No. 3 on Pop Songs and Rhythmic and No. 24 on Adult Pop Songs. On the lattermost chart, that’s Minaj’s best rank as a lead act.

“Starships” has racked 1.3 billion cumulative audience impressions in reaching No. 3 on Radio Songs and has sold 3.2 million downloads.

Back in the upper reaches of the Hot 100′s top 10, Maroon 5′s “Payphone” holds at No. 2. The song spends a second week at No. 1 on Radio Songs (136 million, up 2%), while dipping 1-2 despite a less than 1% gain to 935,000 on-demand streams on On-Demand Songs. The track keeps its No. 3 rank on Digital Songs (183,000, down 1%).

With “Payphone” having racked all 12 of its weeks on the Hot 100 between Nos. 2 and 3 and still gaining in radio audience and streaming, the song could eventually challenge Minaj’s newly-set (and perhaps not-yet-completed) record for the most weeks in the Hot 100′s top 10 for a title that started in the top tier.

Gotye’s former eight-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Somebody That I Used to Know,” featuring Kimbra, remains at No. 3, while Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” stays at No. 4 with top Airplay Gainer honors. “Awake” lifts 7-5 on Radio Songs (87 million, up 22%), while swelling its totals on Digital Songs (2-2; 210,000, up 2%) and On-Demand Songs (9-9; 557,000, up 4%), all in the wake of her 3-D documentary/concert film “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” which premiered July 5 and pulled in $7.1 million in box office receipts in its opening weekend.

Ellie Goulding snares her own slice of Hot 100 history, as “Lights” lifts 6-5. In its 29th frame, the song completes the longest climb to the chart’s top five not aided by country-to-pop crossover success or multiple releases. Lonestar’s “Amazed” (2000) holds the overall record with a 30-week ascent to the top five, pumped by pop and adult radio crossover success after its initial run at country radio. Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” (1996) and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” (1992) also each reached the top five in their 29th frames in their second release cycles.

“Lights” leaps 11-6 on Radio Songs (77 million, up 14%) and 6-5 on On-Demand Songs (763,000, up 22%) and bullets again at No. 5 on Digital Songs (160,000, up 6%).

Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” retreats 5-6 on the Hot 100, although it gains on Radio Songs (4-4; 116 million, up 5%) and On-Demand Songs (17-18; 423,000, up 10%). It’s a non-mover at No. 9 on Digital Songs (102,000, down 7%).

David Guetta’s “Titanium,” featuring Sia, rises 9-7 on the Hot 100 andfun.’s former six-week No. 1 “We Are Young,” featuring Janelle Monae, drops 7-8.

Below “Starships” at No. 9, Usher’s “Scream” holds at No. 10 for a third week, tacking on the Hot 100′s top Streaming Gainer award, powered by a 20-16 blast on On-Demand Songs (449,000, up 30%).

The Hot 100′s top debut belongs to P!nk’s “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” at No. 58. The first single from her sixth studio album, “The Truth About Love,” due Sept. 18, bounds onto Digital Songs at No. 41 (48,000) and Radio Songs at No. 56 (22 million). The song should make an impressive rise on next week’s Hot 100, as it currently ranks at No. 2 in the iTunes Store.
