According to scuttlebut at the Google Launchpad conference, we’ll see the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 launched Tuesday, October 15th. Google Launchpad is a ”two-week boot camp for early stage start-ups helping with subjects including user interface, product strategy & technology, marketing, business development and more,” and sponsored by Google for Entrepreneurs.
We’ve been wondering if we’d see the Nexus 5 launch without an event. Google usually sends out invites at least 10 days in advance, and they’ve been eerily quiet. They could be hosting another of their manicured events, where invites go to a very small group of journalists, but even at that, we would think we’d have heard something. Of course, they could just be launching later this month or early next, too.
According to a variety of sources, this news is just floating around the Launchpad, and not coming from one particular developer at the conference. As for validity, we’re on the fence. Without news of an official event, we’re inclined to be open to the possibility. Whenever it ends up happening, make sure you have both money and patience; I think we all remember the debacle that was the Nexus 4 launch.
