According to a tweet from Sonny Dickson, the teen in Australia who gained fame last year for leaking parts of the Apple iPhone 5s and Apple iPhone 5c, the new Lightning cable for Apple’s mobile devices will be reversible on both sides. While the next USB C connector will also have that feature, Apple’s cable could be ready in a matter of a couple of months.
Apple plans on achieving the reversibility by putting thinner pins in the middle of the connector, which allows it to have the same room to plug into the proper port regardless if it is oriented right side up, or upside down.
Assuming that this is a legit Apple design, and not the workings of a third party manufacturer, perhaps Apple will show these off on September 9th when the next iteration of the iPhone is expected to be unveiled. With total reversibility, just imagine how much sweeter your life will be.
