Furious-7

No new release could match the box office horsepower of reigning champ Furious 7 this weekend.

The latest installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise — which roared past the $1 billion threshold a few days ago — topped the box office for the third straight weekend with an estimated $29.1 million.

Unfriended

Furious 7 held off newcomers Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Unfriended, which debuted with $24 million and $16 million, respectively. Monkey Kingdom debuted in seventh place with $4.7 million.

In limited release, two star-powered crime dramas floundered. The Jonah Hill-James Franco film True Story opened in 11th place with roughly $1.9 million, while the Tom Hardy-led Child 44 bowed in 17th place with $600,000, according to Box Office Mojo.
