The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards are being held Sunday, August 30, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Miley Cyrus. Awards will be handed out in 16 categories, and Kanye West will be presented with the Vanguard Award.

Taylor Swift leads the nominations for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, boasting 10, mostly for her “Bad Blood” video, which is nominated for Video of the Year.

Ed Sheeran boasts the second most nominations with six. He is also nominated for Video of the Year for “Thinking Out Loud.” Kendrick Lamar also boasts four nominations.

The record for most awards won by an artist over their career is held by Madonna, who holds 20 trophies. Even if Swift swept all of her categories, she would not catch up.

She could, however, tie Peter Gabriel’s record of 10 wins in a single year. He won those awards in 1987 — nine for his famous “Sledgehammer” video and the Video Vanguard Award in addition.

Justin Bieber:

His performance on the VMA stage was as straightforward as the VMAs get, even ending with laser lights and Bieber floating upward toward the ceiling. The rest of the set, including both “Where Are U Now” and Bieber’s new single “What Do You Mean?” showed off Bieber’s falsetto and dance moves (which apparently exist!).

By the time the performance was done and Bieber was safely back on the ground, the pop star was hunched over on his knees, breathing hard — and sobbing. Clearly of all of us, Bieber needed this performance the most.

Yahoo’s 2014 Top Searches: Ebola Overshadowed Celebrities!

yahoo-purple-sign-1920-800x450

People used Yahoo this year to get the scoop on celebrities and tech products, but it was a deadly disease that elicited the highest volume of searches.

Revealing its Year in Review for 2014, Yahoo cited the Ebola virus as the most-searched item of the year as the disease ravaged several African countries and turned up in isolated cases in the US and Europe. Minecraft, a popular video game whose developer was bought by Microsoft in September, came in at No. 2.

Trendy celebrities dominated the list as usual, with Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lawrence, Kaley Cuoco, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Aniston all making their way onto Yahoo’s top 10. The Disney film “Frozen” was No. 7 among the top searches.
Yahoo 2014 Top SearchesApple’s new iPhone 6 squeezed onto the list in the No. 9 spot. The iPhone has been among the most-searched terms on Yahoo in four of the past five years, the company said.

“Each year, we see some recurring archetypes such as the female musical ingenue,” Yahoo Web Trends expert Vera Chan said in an email. “This year, that person was Ariana Grande — a former Nickelodeon star whose Billboard success made her number three on this year’s top searches. There’s also usually a cultural mood (‘Frozen,’ which also made our obsessions list), a social media promotion (Kim Kardashian and her ‘Break the Internet’), political or social disasters or concerns (Number one Ebola), and finally technological advances.”

While Yahoo users were searching for Ebola and Kim Kardashian, Yahoo itself was searching for more traffic and renewed stature. In November, Yahoo became the default search engine for Firefox, displacing Google in the process. Yahoo’s new default status in Firefox, which owns around 13 percent of the desktop browser market according to Net Applications, is a big coup for the search engine.

The more traffic a search engine generates, the more opportunities that advertisers have to display their ads. The more that people respond to such ads, the more the search engine can prove itself a viable and profitable platform for advertisers.

“At Yahoo, we believe deeply in search — it’s an area of investment and opportunity for us,” Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer said in a blog post at the time. “This partnership helps to expand our reach in search and gives us an opportunity to work even more closely with Mozilla to find ways to innovate in search, communications and digital content.”

Tech users were also busy tapping into Yahoo this year.

The iPhone 6 captured the top spot among tech searches, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 smartphones. Sports camera GoPro came in fourth, Apple’s iPad Mini came in fifth and Microsoft’s Xbox One came in sixth. Rounding out the list were the Amazon Kindle, Sony’s PlayStation 4, Apple’s iPad Air and Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3.

People also used Yahoo to stay abreast of the latest items in the news by searching for information on the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams, the 2014 elections, the leaked photos of popular celebrities, the loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Mo.

Miley Cyrus Kisses Katy Perry at ‘Bangerz’ Tour!

Miley Cyrus plants a kiss on Katy Perry‘s lips during her Bangerz Tour concert stop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday night (February 22).

The 21-year-old singer was performing her latest single “Adore You” when she spotted her pal Katy, 29, standing in the front row.

“I just kissed a girl and I really liked it a lot,” Miley said after giving Katy the kiss. Love the reference to the hit song!

Katy is back in town after taking a trip to Europe to walk in the Moschinofashion show in Milan.

Miley Cyrus to Justin Bieber: Pay Away Your Problems!

It has come down to this for Justin Bieber: He is now getting advice from Rob Ford and Miley Cyrus.

First, the embattled, crack-smoking Mayor of Toronto, Ontario urged that we should give poor little Bieber a break because he’s only 19, after all.

Then, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno yesterday, Miley was asked about her fellow artist and came up with an easy solution to Justin’s problems …

Miley Cyrus Advises Justin Bieber

“You’ve got a lot of money,” said Cyrus, who knows a thing or two about his situation.

“Pay people to make sure you don’t get in trouble and party at your house!”

The audience laughed… but Miley is totally right. Why is Bieber ever driving his own car? Hire a chauffeur and the guy can get as loaded as he wants to every night.

Then again… Bieber is now accused of attacking a limousine driver in his native Canada. So we guess this idea wouldn’t solve all his legal issues.

Miley Cyrus Appears On 'The Tonight Show', Gives Justin Bieber Advice: Watch

It may seem silly or ironic to some that the controversial singer is handing out advice to her peer, but she makes a good point in the above video:

Every “crazy” thing she does is legal in California.

Critics may take issue with this risque Miley Cyrus nude W cover, for instance. But when compared with vandalism and drunk driving and assault?

Miles seems downright tame. Belieb it or not.

Miley Cyrus Breaks Her Silence on Liam Hemsworth Split: “I’m Obsessed With Being Alone”

Miley Cyrus has been on a press tour for weeks, but it wasn’t until the Oct. 11 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she finally addressed her breakup with Liam Hemsworth. The Last Song costars announced the end of their engagement on Sept. 16, but the 20-year-old pop princess has managed to avoid questions about their split while promoting her fourth album, Bangerz.

“So the last time you were here [in November 2012], I threw you an engagement party,” host Ellen DeGeneres said in Friday’s show. Cyrus replied, “Do you want your money back?”

“I want my money back,” DeGeneres joked. “I sent you, like, [strippers]. You enjoyed it.”

The “Wrecking Ball” singer laughed and replied, “I should of kept one of those dudes’ numbers.” In all seriousness, Cyrus said it’s “not awkward” talking about her breakup “because I’m living it.”

“I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do. I just believe when a chapter is done you have to close it and start that new one. That’s kind of where I am right now,” she explained. “I felt like I have so much to be thankful for at this time that my energy hasn’t really been focused on that.”

The Tennessee native continued, “I’ve been kind of impressed with people and how much they’ve actually shown more respect. I don’t really look up anything, so maybe they haven’t been showing respect, but from what I have seen, I felt like people have really focused on my music right now when I’ve needed them and have actually been really good about that. Because that’s the only thing I worried about—I didn’t want it to make me to sacrifice what I’ve been working for, for just the attention to be on that.”

Bangerz is a reflection of her relationship with Hemsworth, whom she began dating in 2009 and got engaged to in 2012. “I think it says that with starting with ‘Adore You’ and ending with ‘Someone Else,'” she said. “I feel like you can really find like this arch of, like, growth.”

Cyrus said she didn’t realize how personal the album was “until I really listened to it now that it’s done and I have like my physical copy and I put it in my car. I’m like, ‘This is really like telling a story.’ I think I knew more intuitively where my life was going then I actually thought I did at the time.”

The “We Can’t Stop” singer hasn’t been in contact with Hemsworth, 23, who is currently in Georgia filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay with Jennifer Lawrence and Julianne Moore.

“You know, for me, I really haven’t gotten to see anyone right now. ‘Cause I’ve been so crazy busy, I’m just letting that chapter kind of close and just looking forward to that new one,” Cyrus explained. “I want to be really clear and determined with everything I’m doing in my life right now, and I have been. I keep saying I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and that’s not even a dig. That’s just me, because I really am genuinely happy finally with myself, which I think sometimes it takes you separating yourself from someone else to really be happy with who you are. I’ve never been able to just be alone, and I’m obsessed with being alone and like hearing my thoughts.”

Hemsworth, for his part, has yet to publicly comment on their broken engagement.
